Paul Manafort Sentenced to 4 years
Paul Manafort Sentenced to 4 years By Lisa Budris of Budris Law Group on Sunday, March 10, 2019.
On Thursday, President Trump’s campaign chairman, Paul Manafort, was sentenced to 47 months (4 years) in Federal prison. The sentence is being highly criticized as being lenient. The Manafort decision, by Judge T.S. Ellis III in the Eastern District of Virginia, sentenced Manafort to 4 years which departed from the sentencing guidelines for federal offenses. The sentencing range is 19 to 24 years. The Judge’s decision to depart from the guidelines was based on time already served by Manafort on this case, the fact that Manafort had no prior criminal history, Manafort’s age and his health.
Manafort is not in the clear. Manafort faces another sentencing hearing this week in Washington D.C. Court, in the case brought by Robert Mueller in which he plead guilty to one count of Conspiracy against the United States and Conspiracy to Obstruct Justice. This case brings a maximum of 10 years. Judge Amy Berman Jackson will decide the sentence and whether it will be served concurrently or consecutively with his 4 year sentence. If sentenced to the maximum to be served consecutively, Manafort will be in prison until he is 83 years old.
